Ancient Paintings and Engravings

Our farm is home to two forms of ancient rock art: paintings and engravings. The paintings appear on relatively soft, porous sandstone, while the engravings are found on outcrops of metamorphic rock. Both provide valuable insight into the lives, traditions and beliefs of the indigenous San people, also known as the Bushmen.

A Priceless Cultural Heritage

The rock art left behind by the San is an irreplaceable part of Africa’s cultural heritage. Despite its considerable age, much of the artwork remains remarkably well preserved, offering a rare glimpse into a way of life deeply connected to wildlife and the natural environment.
